David Kuhns is managing director of Banyan Group E.S.C. He has over 30 years of business experience, including 15 years as an executive recruiter. He has completed more than 130 top-level executive search assignments in most functional areas. Over 90 percent of his search work in recent years has been for key leadership positions (CEOs / COOs / EVPs and nonprofit EDs, and senior financial, technical and strategic marketing executives). David is a former assistant general counsel of Home Box Office. He co-founded and served on the board of Citicom Radio Corporation, a television and radio station group with broadcast properties in Massachusetts, New York and Ohio. That company also owned an interest in United States Satellite Television, a pioneer in the direct broadcast satellite industry. He is also co-founder of Urban Logic Inc., an international consultancy focused on helping state and local governments organize and finance large-scale information infrastructure projects. Prior to starting his own recruiting firm, David was a partner with the global search firm Ray & Berndtson, where he focused on the communications and information technologies industries and co-headed the firm's new media practice. Earlier in his career, he served as a communications industry specialist with Russell Reynolds Associates, another leading international search firm. He has a strong marketing, analytical, strategic planning and general management background, developed by 10 years in industry and 29 years in executive search. Starting his career as a research analyst for the Wall Street firm of Tucker Anthony & RL Day, he later served as vice president of marketing for LandVest and then CEO of Brenter Sports. John's executive search experience began in 1975 with Organization Resources, Inc., Boston's oldest national executive search and consulting firm, where he recruited management executives for small to medium sized companies. In 1981 he was recruited by Heidrick and Struggles, one of the 3 largest executive search firms in the world, where he served the executive search needs of the fast growth, small to mid-sized emerging business marketplace. In 1987 John returned to ORI as executive vice president, with the charter to formalize the emerging business search practice. ORI later changed its name to Executive Resources Inc., and John's work with emerging companies became the firm's fastest growing specialty practice. He has executed over 300 national searches for emerging and mid-cap companies involved in technology, life sciences and medical devices, manufacturing, instrumentation and consumer and industrial products, ranging from CEO/COO to operations and senior level sales, marketing, finance and technical positions as well as board searches. John received his BA degree from Williams College. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Smaller Business Association of New England.
